In an effort to improve take-home pay and boost morale throughout the public sector, the Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a broad increase in peculiar allowances and other welfare benefits for civil servants.
Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Federation’s Civil Service, made the announcement on Friday at a press conference in Abuja, outlining important reforms approved by the Federal Executive Council.
Walson-Jack claims that the review has a wide-ranging effect on all cadres by affecting employees under both the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS).

She claims that the revised peculiar allowances, which are designed to reflect across all grade levels, have resulted in a significant increase in the earnings of both junior and senior officers.

The government also approved an increase in several significant allowances, including the Duty Tour Allowance (DTA), Estacode, and the book allowance. According to Walson-Jack, nearly every allowance listed in the Public Service Rules has been revised.

One important aspect of the reform is the approval of 100% Duty Tour Allowance for civil servants taking part in approved training programs, regardless of whether travel is necessary.
